The race to sign Anderlecht and Nigeria International Paul Mukairu has turned a new edge with Ajax reportedly being the leading club.
Dutch giants Ajax have made an enquiry for the Nigerian youngster and he’s also said to be on Tottenham’s radar also.
Mukairu is on a season-long loan at Anderlecht from Turkish outfit Antalyaspor with the Belgian club having the option to sign the winger on a permanently at the end of the campaign.
The 21-year-old has been fantastic so far this term with him bagging four goals and four assists in his debut season in the Belgian top division.
It’s believed that £4m is what’s needed to capture the signature of Mukairu at the end of the season.
Soccer Nigeria reported that Ajax aren’t alone in this battle but Bayer Leverkusen, AS Roma and Spurs are also wanting to bring him to their club.
The report also reveals that Ajax have leapfrogged their fellow competitors in the race to get Mukairu.
One of Mukairu’s representatives is quoted in the report as saying: “Ajax are interested in Paul.
“He is a highly technical player who will fit the Ajax style.
“He is not yet the finished article and Ajax would be a great club for him to continue with his development.
“It will also be a chance for the player to feature in the Champions League season after season.”
