Former Democratic Republic Of Congo skipper Gabriel Zakuani is of the belief that the Super Eagles of Nigeria won’t win the AFCON 2021 come next year.

Gernot Rohr’s men sit top of Group L in the AFCON 2021 Qualifiers with them needing just a point to qualify.

It’s still an open race in Group L as all the teams, which include Benin, Sierra Leone and Lesotho, can still qualify for January’s finals in Cameroon.

The Super Eagles would have been amongst the early birds to qualify on matchday 3 but let a 4-0 lead at home to Sierra Leone slip and it ended in an eighth goal thrilling draw last November.

“At this moment, I don’t quite feel they are ready because champions will not give away four-goal leads, so I don’t expect them to win

“I feel like it has come too soon for them to win it. [It’s time] for them to just be there, compete and then push on again.”

Nigeria currently top Group L on eight points, one ahead of Benin while Sierra Leone have three points and Lesotho two.

The last two matches of the qualification series take place later this month with ater this month with Nigeria travelling to Benin and also coming back home to host Lesotho.
