Manchester City fans have come out to salute Iheanacho for his blistering performances with them stating that he’s better than Anthony Martial and also wanting City to activate his buyback clause.
Kelechi Iheanacho made the headlines after he scored an excellent hat-trick in Sunday’s 5-0 win over Sheffield United at the King Power Stadium.
The 24-year-old was once on the books of the Cityzens with him scoring 21 times in 64 appearances but was sold to Leicester in the summer of 2017 for £25milllion.
The move however didn’t help him to become a world-beater as he was seen as he played the second fiddle role to 2020’s Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy.
Coming from a good run of form, Kels as he’s being called at the King Power made his third start in a row and also the third consecutive start up front alongside Vardy.
The 23 Cap Super Eagle since his last two games before the hat-trick scored goals in Leicester’s 1-1 draw with Burnley and the 2-1 victory over Brighton.
With about nine minutes left to play in the first half, Iheanacho opened the floodgates of goals, latching on to an inch-perfect low cross from Vardy to score the opener.
In the second half of the encounter, Ayoze Perez scored an excellent second goal for the Foxes, striking an effort home from 18 yards. It was 3-0 when Vardy found Iheanacho again, laying a beautiful pass in behind the Blades defence and Iheanacho put it in the net.
To take home the match ball, a Nigeria made goal was birthed once again as Wilfred Ndidi set up Iheanacho for his hat-trick.
The 2013 U-17 FIFA World Cup player of the tournament shot from 20 yards from out, and he lashed a left-footed drive into the bottom corner past Aaron Ramsdale.
The performance from the Foxes, helped them stake claims for a finish in the Champions League slots. Opening up a five-point gap on fourth-placed Chelsea, Leicester are now in a solid position to finish in the top four.
Iheanacho’s former employer will be losing Sergio Aguero after the Argentine refused a new contract, the move for a new striker is on the cards.
Gabriel Jesus who took Kels’ spot as no.2 is no longer seen as the long-term answer, though he’s preformed whenever he’s being brought in. Borussia Dortmund youngster Erling Haaland is linked with City and not to forget that Ciity are said to be long-term admirers of Harry Kane.
Iheanacho has taken his tally to 10 goals in 27 games for Leicester – in which he has only started 14 of those, and completed 90 minutes on just five occasions. His future this summer could also be up in the air.
Manchester City supporters have clamored for their club to bring the 2014 CAF Young Player Of The Year back to The Etihad following his hat-trick – with one fan even suggesting a swap deal with Jesus.
