Juventus and Portugal forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, could face disciplinary actions following his unprofessional attitude at the tale end of Portugal’s 2-2 draw with Serbia.
Cristiano stormed out of the pitch after being denied a goal that’d have wrapped up the 3 points for his side late in the game with him throwing the captain’s armband to the floor.
The Portuguese’s strike absolutely crossed the line but the goal was not given due to there being no goal-line technology or VAR to prove the center referee wrong.
Stefan Mitrovic clearance was said to have stopped the whole of the ball from crossing the line but in the real sense it didn’t.
Fernando Santos who’s the head coach of the Selecao revealed that the referee apologised for the mistake that denied them 3 pivotal points.
An Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport opines that the 36 year old could be banned for at least a game for his unprofessional act.
Article 11 in the Disciplinary Code states: “Associations and clubs, as well as their players, officials or any other member or person performing a function on their behalf, must comply with the Laws of the Game, the FIFA Statutes and the regulations, directives, guidelines, circulars and the decisions of FIFA; likewise, they must comply with the principles of fair play, loyalty and integrity.”
Though he was widely criticised for his act, he’s yet to be found guilty of the misconduct.
