As the 25th season of the Womens National Basketball Association takes centre-stage on Saturday morning, some players with the Nigerian heritage had a bright start with their clubs.

Michael Onyenwere had an impressive start as she played her first-ever WNBA game with the New York Liberty, who beat Indiana Fevers 90-87.

Onywenwere recorded 18 points 6 rebounds, plus shooting 3/6, 50% from 3-point range.

Ionescu Sabrina’s won the game late, shooting a clutch 3-pointer, to put the game ahead of Indiana, whose late attempt to equal the scoreline was futile.

Apart from Ionescu Sabrina’s winner, onyenwere brilliant performance help the New York Liberty with thier first win in the first game of the season.

When it comes to women basketball in the United State, the Ogwumike sisters needs no introduction. Both girls started for the Los Angeles Sparks who were beaten by Dallas Wings, 94-71.

Nneka Ogwumike scored a team-high 18 points 8 rebounds in the loss, Chiney added 12 points 6 rebounds, shooting 2/3, 66% from 3-point range.

Dallas Wings had another player who has the Nigerian blood in her, Arike Ogunbowale. She was highly instrumental for the wings, scoring 17 points
