Weeks after coming in to replace Algeria as the host of the African Athletics Championship, Nigeria has today pulled out of hosting the event billed for June 23-27.
The competition would have taken place in Lagos State, but the Nigerian Health authorities haven’t approved the organization in grounds of COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the competition started, Nigeria have topped the medals table 8-times, the most recorded by any country, since it’s inception.
Nigeria would have tied with Egypt as the two African countries to host the championships three times since the inaugural edition in 1979 in Dakar, Senegal.
The African Championships in Athletics is a continental athletics event organized by the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), the continental association for the sport in Africa
