Long-term injured defender Virgil van Dijk will kick off pre-season at Liverpool’s training camp in Austria on Monday.
Van Dijk who has been out injured since October 2020, will join up with a 34-man Liverpool squad at their base in the state of Tyrol for preseason.
He missed much of the 2020-21 season having suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Everton in October, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign, playing just give league games fort the reds.
Liverpool fans have taken to social media to share their delight at Virgil van Dijk’s latest injury update.
The 30 years old was a major part of Liverpool tremendous seasons run since joining from Southampton in 2018. Scoring 13 goals for the reds, he has won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and the team’s first Premier League title in 30 years.
While he was only one of numerous defensive injury issues Liverpool had last term, the Reds sorely missed his leadership and imperious attributes having played every match of their successful 2019-20 Premier League campaign.
Liverpool won 81.4 per cent of the 43 Premier League matches Van Dijk played between August 2019 and his injury, but that fell to just 51.5 per cent between October and the end of the season when he was out of the team.
