Paris Saint-Germain’s capture of Gianluigi Donnarumma means the French giantADVEhave a ridiculous NINE goalkeepers in their first-team squad.

Fresh from winning Euro 2020 with Italy and being voted as UEFA’s Player of the Tournament, Donnarumma has signed a five-year contract with the Parisian outfit.

The 22-year-old will rival Keylor Navas for the No.1 shirt at the Parc des Princes and adds to a very deep set of goalkeeping options for Mauricio Pochettino to choose from.

He is genuinely only two players away from fielding a full XI of goalkeepers.

Last season, Navas was firmly first choice in between the sticks and it was Sergio Rico, formerly of Fulham and Sevilla, who served as his deputy.

But PSG also two 21-year-old goalkeepers in Marcin Bulka and Garissone Innocent, as well as a pair of 18-year-old shotstoppers in Lucas Lavelle and Denis Franchi.

Then there’s also 30-year-old Alexandre Letellier, who recently signed a new contract extension despite not yet making a first-team appearance for the Ligue One side.

Nine goalkeepers will likely become eight soon as Alphonse Areola is said to be close to joining West Ham on permanent deal.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Fulham as they were relegated from the Premier League under Scott Parker.

There was a suggestion that Donnarumma would be loaned out but that appears to be out of question now. Having signed on a free transfer, the former AC Milan man has taken the No.50 shirt at his new club.

“I am delighted to be part of this huge club,” Donnarumma told PSG’s official website after signing his contract on Wednesday.

“I feel ready to take on this new challenge and continue to grow here.

With Paris, I want to win as much as possible and to bring joy to the supporters.”
