Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has handed his club Leganes a transfer request as he’s set to move on from the Spanish side.
The 27-year-old joined CD Leganes initially on loan from parent club Chelsea in the 2018/2019 season.
Having impressed on loan, the Cucumber Growers made his loan move permanent at the start of the 2019/2020 season.
However, the 2019/2020 campaign was a disastrous one for the Madrid based outfit with them not beating the drop.
Kenneth opted to stay with the team for the 2020/2021 campaign despite them suffering relegation from La Liga to the Segunda Division.
The objective of the team was to get immediate promotion back to the La Liga Santander but they faltered in the playoffs.
The 2013 AFCON winner is poised to play topflight football in any of Europe’s top five leagues and the club’s failure to gain promotion has now prompted him to make a transfer request. AS reports.
Omeruo will need to step up from a lower league if he is to represent Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations as well as the FIFA World Cup™ in 2022.
The former Sunshine Stars youngster was part of the Super Eagles’ squads at the AFCON in 2013 and 2019, as well as the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup™.
Leganes will demand €3million from any suitor that comes for the Nigerian as they look set to recoup over 50% of the €5million they paid to Chelsea two years ago.
Omeruo was previously on the books ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasimpasa and Alanyaspor in his club career.
