France U-23 team recovered from a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Mexico in the opening game of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as they claimed an emphatic 4-3 victory over South Africa in their second group game. Trailing by a goal up till minutes before the hour mark, Andre-Pierre Gignac stole the show with his second half hat trick to draw France level before Teji Savanier provided the last-gasp winner for the French team.

No much talking point in group D as Brazil were held to a goalless draw by Cote D’ Ivoire. Much thanks to Ivory Coast solid defense line that did enough to enfeeble Richarlison prowess at the front of goal.

Also, 10-man Germany defeated Asian outfit Saudi Arabia 3-2, 3 days after the 4-2 loss to Brazil. Nadiem Amiri gave Germany the early lead after having played 10 minutes of the game before Sami Al-Najei equalised for the Arabians on the half hour mark. With two minutes left in the first half, Ragnar Ache made it 2-1 to restored Germany’s lead. Sami Al-Najei got his brace in the 50th minutes, before things got sour for Germany after Amos Pieper was sent off. But with 15 minutes left on the clock, Felix Udoukhai put Germany in front once more to earn his team their first win of the tournament.

In group C, Spain clinched their first win of the tournament thanks to a late Mikel Oyarzabal goal in the 81st minute as they pip Australia 1-0. Argentina also bounced back from a 2-0 defeat to Australia in the opening game to claim a narrow 1-0 win over Egypt. Facouno Medina’s only goal made the difference in the contest.

South Korea retaliated their 2-0 loss away to New Zealand on the opening matchday when they thumped Romania 4-0 courtesy of Kang-In-Lee brace, Won Sang Eom and Marius Marin own goal while Honduras also rode their luck in a 3-2 win over New Zealand.
