Teenage Tunisian swimmer Ahmed Hafnaoui stunned the Tokyo Aquatic Centre to become the first African to win a gold medal at the ongoing Olympic games after a shock triumph in the 400m freestyle.
The 18-year-old 🇹🇳 Ahmed Hafnaoui of Tunisia came from behind to win gold in the men’s 400-meter freestyle.
He became only the third swimmer to ever win an Olympic gold medal swimming in lane 8, which means he had been the slowest in the loop qualifying and barely qualified for the final. He qualified last and finished first.
Hafnaoui is only the second Tunisian swimmer to ever qualify for an Olympic final, after 1500m gold medalist Ous Mellouli in 2008.
“I’m Olympic champion now… I just can’t believe.” Ahmed says after his unbelievable stunning win.
