Former Golden Eaglets coach, John Obuh, has been appointed as the technical adviser of AS Roma Academy in Abuja.
The NPFL veteran’s appointment was confirmed on Monday in a statement from the academy’s country manager, Robin Adakosa.
Obuh is vastly experienced in youth football development and his CV justified his appointment as the technical adviser of AS Roma academy.
The 61-year-old has previously taken charge of the Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles of Nigeria with him leading Nigeria to finish as runners-up at the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup which the West African giants hosted.
Adakosa is of the opinion that Obuh’s vast knowledge in youth development will be an added advantage for Roma as they look forward to nutting young talent.
“It was easy for us to pick Mr Obuh among numerous other people considered for the job because we believe he possesses the quality to drive the vision of our academy,” Adakosa said.
“The kids and other staff will have a lot to learn from him because we believe that he has seen it all as far as football is concerned, not only in Nigeria but globally.
“We believe that this new step is a bold statement to making sure that AS Roma Academy Abuja, becomes a source of talented youngsters for the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria and the Flying Eagles.”
The Italian giants only have three academies across the globe namely; Abuja (Nigeria), New York City (USA) and Quito (Ecuador).
John Obuh was once a footballer and since his retirement from the round leather game he has coached in the Nigeria Professional Football League with stints at Akwa United, Kwara United, Sharks FC, Niger Tornadoes and Enugu Rangers.
