Chelsea have reportedly began official talks with Sevilla for French international Jules Kounde after his move to Tottenham early in the transfer window collapsed, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano
Champions league winning side Chelsea are looking to fortify their current squad and have now spotted the 22-year-old defender as a valuable addition to the team defensive unit.
Kounde who joined Spanish side Sevilla in 2019, have long been Tottenham admirer and would have completed a player-plus-cash transfer involving Davinson Sanchez with the London club early in the transfer window, but his ambition to play Champions League football disrupted the negotiations.
The former Boudeaux man would be willing to join Chelsea given the Champions League football offer is on the table.
The Blues were crowned Champions of Europe last season, drubbing Sevilla 4-0 in the process with Olivier Giroud scoring all four goals in a contest Jules Kounde did not make an appearance.
The £22.5m Sevilla signing in 2019 has been in an impressive form since joining the club, thereby attracting interests from top clubs. Manchester City’s £45m bid for the defender in the Summer of 2020 was turned down before the citizens opted out for Benfica’s Ruben Diaz.
Manchester United too had been keen on Kounde before striking a deal to sign Raphael Varane.
But Chelsea have emerged as a potential club to strike a deal with Kounde who is now valuated at £60m.
