Victoria Macaulay led D’Tigress of Nigeria with 18 points in 102-83 defeat to host nation, Japan in the last group game of Tokyo Olympics Basketball event. The loss for Nigeria means none of the national teams (Both male and female) won a game in all three group games played, despite high expectations going to Tokyo.

Saki Hayashi scored 23 points for Japan who had an impressive 3rd quarter display to put the game ahead of Nigeria at 84-57, as a late fourth quarter fight-back for Nigeria was just enough to reduce the margin to 19 points.

With the result, Nigeria won’t be in the quarter finals.

The D’Tigress of Nigeria in 2004 was the first Afican country to win a game at the Olympics in Athens, Greece. But recently with a (0-3) form in Tokyo they became the latest African country to not win a game in the Olympics.

Odera Chidom and Ezinne Kalu combined for 24 points, while Atonye Nyigifa led the team with 8 assists.
