A brilliant Diego Jota goal was not enough for Liverpool as they where held to a 1-1 draw by Spanish side Athletic Bilbao, in the penultimate friendly game before the start of the new English Premier League season.
Offensively Jurgen Klopp men where in charge creating so many chances but lacked the cutting edge. The draw is not a bad result to take to tomorrow’s last tune up against Osasuna and then the league opener against Norwich in less than a week.
Athletic Bilbao had some chances that went begging in the first half, but a tap in finish couldn’t be missed by Alex Berenguer 6 minutes into the second-half to put the game at 1-1.
Inaki Williams was a constant threat for Liverpool, with staggering runs that caused lot of problem for the Reds defense.
For Liverpool there are loads of positives to pick from this game, as players like Harvey Elliot, Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and some others impressed in the encounter. Scotland international Andy Robertson was limped-off minutes before half-time, the extenth of his injury has not been revealed just yet, as he will need to go through a scan.
Virgil Van Dijk almost gave Liverpool the lead when Trent Alexander Arnold swing in a lovely cross from corner, but the header narrowly missed the bottom corner.
The Reds have made just one major signing in Ibrahima Konate since the summer transfer window opened, but will surely be bolstered by the return of Joe Gomez, Virgil Van Dijk from injury.
