The reigning European champions Chelsea FC defeated Villarreal by 6-5 on penalty shootout 

The match ended 1-1 after extra time before it went down into penalty shootout where Chelsea outcast goal keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga became the hero by saving two spot kicks.

Kepa Arrizabalaga denied Villarreal captain Raul Albiol.

Thomas Tuchel tactical switch paid off as he substitute Edouard Mendy for Kepa in less than a minute before the end of extra time.

Hakim Ziyech first found the net at 27 minutes for Chelsea before Gerard Moreno equalize for the yellow Submarine at the 73 minutes into the second half of the game.

Meanwhile Chelsea FC lost against Atletico Madrid in European super Cup in 2012, they lost against Bayern Munich in 2013 and Liverpool in 2019 respectively.

However, their final against Villarreal at Windsor Park in Belfast makes it four finals since 1998 and the first ever European Super Cup victory in Roman Abramovich era.
