Super Eagles and Bordeaux star Samuel Kalu collapsed on the pitch five minutes into his side 2-2 draw against Marseille this evening in the French Ligue 1.

The Nigerian international was about to form a defensive wall against a freekick from the opponent before falling unto the ground early into the game with his teammates forming a human shield around him, the like of which was seen when Christen Ericksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2020.

Upon receiving rapt medical treatment, Samuel Kalu got back to his feet but could only remain on the pitch for a few minutes as he was substituted eight minutes after the scary incident.

Goals from Turkish Cengiz Under in the 34th minute and Dimitri Payet’s 41st minute strike gave Marseillle a 2-goal cushion at the break before Timothy Pembele and Remi Oudin restored parity in the contest in tbe 51st and 57th minute respectively.

It will be recalled that similar occurrence befell the Nigerian winger on the eve of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations opener in Egypt back in 2019 when he collapsed on the training ground in which ‘severe dehydration’ was stated as the gravamen for the incident 2 years ago.

With the cause of Kalu’s collapse yet to be known, the player was applauded from the stands as he walks off the pitch in the encounter.
