Manchester City and Les Bleus defender Benjamin Mendy has been accused of four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The 27 year old has left City’s facility and is preparing to appear before the court on Friday.
The force revealed that the charges relate to three complainants with one involving a rape case with a 16 year old girl and the other events are alleged to have happened between October 2020 and August 2021.
The Left fullback has been arrested by the cops and is scheduled to appear at the Chester Magistrates’ Court.
“Cheshire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service would like to remind everyone that criminal proceedings against Mendy are live and that he has a right to a fair trial.” A Police spokesperson revealed.
Mendy has won all trophies available in the English top flight since his arrival in 2017 with him been part of three Premier League title-winning squads, English League Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield.
In a statement, Manchester City said: “Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.
“The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete.”
