Manchester United Women’s WSL campaign kickoff to the perfect start with goals in either half to earn a 2-0 win over Reading Women.
Manchester United have faced Reading FC four times in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League (FAWSL), losing once, with that lone defeat coming in the latest league meeting between the two sides as they’re beaten 2-0 by Reading on home soil last season.
Ella Toone who started the game as a false nine ensures free flow of pass as she dropped deep and ended up with two assists.
Six minutes before half-time, Kristy Hanson net United and FAWSL first goal of the new campaign from Ella Toone’s assist.
Another through pass from Ella Toone saw left-back Ona Batlle thundered in a second from the edge of the area, scoring her first ever united goal on her 20th appearance for the club.
United new coach Marc Skinner is more than excited to earned all points in his first match in charge at the Leigh Sports Village.
Kristy Hanson who scored the opening goal of the new season was named Player of the Match.
“It was a tough start”, Hanson stated “they put a lot of pressure on us. We then started being more patient on the ball and in the final third and it eventually paid off with the goals.” – she added.
She concluded: “We’ve got a lot of forwards and we want to make an impact, so we’ve been working on that in training and I’m delighted it paid off”.
Reading FC will welcome Arsenal Women on Saturday, September 12; Kick-off at 2pm.
Manchester United’s will travel away to Leicester City Women on Sunday, September 13; Kick-off at 2pm.
