It was a battle of the lionesses today on match day two of the Aisha Buhari Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, as the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco pipped the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon 1-0.

Both Lionesses were matched in all aspects for most period of the game.

There was nothing to separate the sides in the first half, despite Cameroon creating most of the chances but unable to utilize.

A brilliant goal by Fatima Tagnaout 13 minutes from time separated the sides after several saves made by the Moroccan goalkeeper, Errmichi Khadija, boost the confidence level of the North Africans.

In a match officiated by Zouwaira Souley Sani from Niger Republic, the four times AWCON runners-up bowed to an opening defeat.

Cameroon will next face Ghana on Monday, 20th September at the same venue.

A day earlier, Morocco will look to keep the winning momentum when they battle Mali who lost its opening match against Nigeria.

Tomorrow will see Ghana’s Black Queens and the Banyana Banyana of South Africa square up on Day 3 of the tournament at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
