This month, the Nigerian attacker has been one of the brightest stars in the Italian top division, and a former terrific goal scorer finds parallels in their performances.

Victor Osimhen’s physical and inherent skills, according to ex-Juventus star Vincenzo Iaquinta, make the Super Eagles ace a remarkable attacker in the mold of Iaquinta when he was at the top of his game.

Following his club-record signing from Ligue 1 side Lille, Osimhen received some criticism in his debut year in Naples after scoring ten goals.

However, after a remarkable start to the new Serie A season, some of the youngster’s harshest critics have become his biggest cheerleaders.

Osimhen has had a fantastic start to the season, scoring six goals in his last four games to become Napoli’s leading scorer. He has scored four goals in his past three league games, as well as two in the Europa League.

With Benzema and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, Osimhen has become the most prolific striker in Europe’s top five divisions.

Iaquinta, who won the FIFA World Cup in 2006, feels Osimhen may still progress under Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti.

Iaquinta rose to become one of Italy’s best finishers under Spalletti’s supervision at Udinese after playing for a few lesser-known clubs.

“For clarity, Osimhen does not argue: speed, technique, and power are the innate qualities of this extraordinary striker,” Iaquinta told Il Mattino, as per TuttoNapoli.

“Spalletti, however, when he has this type of bomber, goes to the party because he manages to enhance the attack to the depth with his way of setting the manoeuvre.

“Osimhen has characteristics very similar to those I had: high and fast, he attacks the depth: there are few forwards like that. Today, with these qualities, there is only Haaland who has some crazy times.

“With Spalletti, Napoli got off to a great start, with an extraordinary place that can become enthralling: it is useless to hide, also thanks to Osimhen, they (Napoli) can aim to win the Scudetto.”

Osimhen has established himself as one of the most promising players in Serie A. Only Nicolo Barella of Inter Milan has outperformed the Super Eagles forward this season in terms of statistics in the Italian League.
