Defending Champions, FC Barcelona Femeni kicked off its UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage campaign and title defence on a winning note with a 4-1 win over Barclays English FA Women’s Super League (WSL) side, Arsenal FC Women.
In the 31st minute, Mariona Caldentey scored the rebound from an Oshoala shot for the first.
Eleven minutes later, Asisat Oshoala provided Alexia Putellas with an assist to double the Catalan side’s lead, and added a third herself early in the second half from a sublime Mariona through ball before making way in the 70th minute for Lieke Martens.
Frida Leonhardsen-Maanum scored Arsenal’s consolation goal in the 74th minute. Substitute, Lieke Martens made it 4-1 for Barcelona in the 84th minute while Alexia Putellas Segura missed a penalty in the additional minutes of second half.
