Meeting for the first time since losing the Aisha Buhari Cup final, Asisat Oshoala celebrated her 27th birthday with a goal against Kgatlana’s Atlético de Madrid in the Primera Iberdrola on Sunday.
Prior to the contest, the African Women’s Footballer of the Year winners had previously met five times, with Oshoala winning thrice and scoring three times, while Kgatlana celebrated victories twice and netted twice.
Barcelona’s coach, Giráldez started with the same eleven filed against Arsenal.
In her fourth league start of the season, Oshoala opened the scoring for the Catalans in the 35th minute from Hansen’s assist.
Oshoala was replaced in the 64th minute after netting her eighth league goal of the campaign in six matches.
Aitana Bonmati doubled the lead in the 71st minute before Lieke Martens completed the scoring three minutes.
Rasheedat Ajibade, was not dressed for the capital club in the encounter, but her South African teammate – Thembi Kgatlana came off the bench in the 74th minute, with her side already three goals down in Madrid but her effort was not enough to help them avoid their first defeat of the season.
With her fifth appearance as a substitute, Kgatlana’s search for her first goal for Atletico since joining from Eibar this term continues.
