Players of Nigeria’s most successful Basketball team, D’Tigress of Nigeria have launched a protest against the Nigeria Basketball Federation, led by Engr. Musa Kida.

D’Tigress players declared their intention on a ZOOM session to voice their displeasure with the manner the affair has been handled and has thoroughly scrutinized the administration of the caretaker chairman , Engr. Musa Kida, who will contest for a second-term in the office when the elective congress comes up on the 30th of October.

It’s no news that the Nigerian basketball federation has been suffering from some internal wrangling for some time now, but recent protest means D’Tigress has had enough of the ill-treatment they have experienced from the ministry. They complained about unfulfilled promises, unpaid match bonuses since 2017 and dis-heartening Tokyo 2020 Olympics experience.

A source told Kenny Bamidele about how terrible the Tokyo Olympics experience was.

“It’s so sad that Nigeria didn’t prepare their athletes enough for such a big stage. And I definitely think it needs to be talked about more. One uniform, late paychecks, paying for our own luggage, sometimes even tickets is unacceptable. I feel like more athletes would want to represent our beautiful country if the federation was ran a little more smoothly “

The reason for the poor performance at the Tokyo Olympics according to the girls was because of the backlogs of allowances they were owed for almost five years. They however listed some conditions that the federation needs to meet.

1) Payment of Bonuses and allowances
2) Presidential visit to Aso Rock among others.

Before the commencement of Tokyo Olympics Three commercial Banks ( Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank and Access Bank) donated a sum of 100 Million to the Nigeria basketball team. D’Tigress on their official Twitter handle immediately dropped a message for the ministry, urging them to pay the money into players and officials account directly, saying they don’t want a replica of what happened in 2017, when rewards from the president went into “a black hole”.

As things stand, it looks like the promised reward is yet to be fulfilled, as stated in the ZOOM session on Sunday morning.

This is not the end of it, more reports will unfold in the coming days.
