Super Eagles and Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, is on the brink of being axed from the Nigerian national team after allegations of him shoving a journalist was being tendered.

Iheanacho was said to have disgraced Yinka Oyedele of Brilla FM by pushing him away when he wanted to ask some questions from the forward.

An official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who pleaded anonymity revealed that steps are being taken to address the incident that reportedly happened during the October international window.

“We’re investigating the issue and when we’re done with it we’d make decision. There are two possible cases here if which he’s found guilty then a fine or ban depending on the severity of the alleged assault. If otherwise he’ll be admonished on his conduct in the future”, he told

“It’s imperative on us as the football body to ensure that these players realize that they’re role models hence should always behave right. Some of thes journalists are from our sponsors, so we won’t want to be in a situation of conflict with entities who are helping us with finances to offset bills”. He concluded.

Nigeria next play away to Liberia in the matchday five encounter of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier before returning to play the final group game against Cape Verde in Lagos.

The Super Eagles top group C with nine points from four games, Cape Verde are second with seven points, Central African Republic are third with four points and Liberia with three points.
