Paris Saint Germain continue their impressive form in the Division one Arkema Ligue, as they scored two unreplied goals against their stubborn visitors, Saint Étienne.
The defending champions who are yet to concede a goal in all competitions this season, fought hard at the Stade Georges Laferve before registering a late first half goal.
The visitors caused a lot of problems in the first 42 minutes. But had nothing to show for it.
Last season’s player of the month, Sara Däbritz opened the scoring for the home side just before the break, to crush Saint Etienne’s hope of ending the first half goalless.
The second half started with both teams looking for a loophole to take advantage of. Nigerian Esther Okoronkwo was fouled by Ashley Lawrence 15 minutes into the second half.
But the free kick didn’t yield anything as the Parisian defenders were alerted.
German international Sara Däbritz, in the 66th minute, connected with Marie-Antoinette Katoto who perfectly for the Parisiennes scored the second goal of the evening. Taking her goal tally to seven in the league. Untenable, Sara also hit the crossbar at the end of the match in the 89th minute.
Olle Nicole praised the Saint Étienne’s team and also admitted that playing three games in the space of eight days affected his team.
“Saint Étienne is a very good team, they are very good at defending and soak in pressure.”
“We are a little tired. Six member of my team played four games in a short time, they are not exhausted but a little tired.”
“We grew into the game late. Recovering the balls and distributing it. We were not fast in attacking our opponents today like we always do.”
PSG now has 18 points from six games, same with Olympique Lyon who top the Division One Arkema League on goal difference.
