The 2021 Ballon d’Or award ceremony is set to take place next month and the name of the winner of the award has been a constant source of speculation with reports emerging that the winner has already been determined.
Argentina icon, Lionel Messi who is being touted as the favourite to win his seventh such honour has if reports are to be believed already won the honour – though such claims have been branded as “bullsh**t” by the editor of France Football.
“That’s a lot of bullsh*t we’ve seen in the past10days. A big bluff,” France Football editor, Pascal Ferre told Bild when asked about the speculation.
The Argentinian is widely considered the favourite considering that he was in brilliant form for Barcelona last season, while also playing a key role in helping Argentina win their first Copa America title since 1993.
Alongside Messi, Robert Lewandowski is among the favourites to win the award later this month following a prolific 12 months for Bayern Munich and Poland.
A jury of 53 sports journalists are said to have cast their votes around two weeks ago, raising speculation as to who they have opted for.
