Netherlands and Spartak Moscow midfielder Quincy Promes will be charged with attempted murder, according to Telegraaf.

The 29-year-old who joined Spartak Moscow from Ajax last season, is alleged to have stabbed his cousin in the knee during a party in July 2020.

He was arrested in December that year, spent two days in jail before being released but the police investigation continued on until May this year.

“It was a shock for everyone, but I am glad I was released so quickly,” he told Fox Sports.

“I can’t say more about it. I’m just as shocked as the rest of the world. It is something from my private life, I cannot say more about it.

“It feels good that people believe in me, that helps a lot. I don’t want to waste any more energy on peripheral matters.” Promes told Fox Sports after returning to the pitch for the Amsterdam in a 4-2 win over ADO Den Haag.

Promes wasn’t called up to the latest Netherlands squad by Louis van Gaal due to the ongoing case.
