Northern Ireland moved to the third position in Group D of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Europe with a resounding 0-11 away win against North Macedonia on Thursday.
Rachel Furness opened the flood gate of goals four minutes into the game, Rebecca Mckenna doubled the lead six minutes later and in the 11th minute Magill scored another before Furness converting the fourth from the spot kick, five minutes later.
She could have had another in the 23rd minute but missed from the penalty kick, before Lauren Wade eventually scored Northern Ireland’s fifth goal in the 26th minute while Kirsty McGuinness and Simone Magill scored two more goals to make it 0-7 before half time break.
Furness registered her hat-trick in the 68th mimute and in the process, equalled David Healy’s Northern Ireland scoring record. Two more goals from Simone Magill –ensures that Furness wasn’t the only one to net a match ball– and the other from Rebecca Holloway completed the rout.
