Super Eagles and Al Shabab forward Jude Odion Ighalo, is not giving up on Napoli’s forward Victor Osimhen, who sustained an injury that will keep him out of football action for three weeks.

Osimhen suffered an injury to his eye socket after collision with Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, in a Serie A game. He had 18 screws inserted in his cheekbone to address the horrific facial injury he suffered.

Speaking to ESPN, the Al Shabab forward Jude Odion Ighalo, who recently returned to the Nigeria National team after an early retirement, says he is hoping for a miracle to see the U17 World Cup winner in Cameroon.

“I spoke to him after his surgery to wish him well, and to tell him that this is one of those things that happen,”

“I am praying by God’s grace for him to recover. We need Osimhen at the Nations Cup.”

“He is young, he is a fighter and he will come back stronger than before and make it to the AFCON. We will see him there doing well as he has been doing because this is his time and he needs to shine.”

The surgeon who treated Osimhen, Gianpaolo Tartaro, said it was a complicated process to conclude and required such extensive measures.

“He had a series of fractures, it was as if his head had ended up under a press,” Tartaro told Corriere dello Sport.

“The eye came out of its socket. It is not simple at all, in fact it is very delicate due to the crushing of the socket, due to the curving of the malar bone [which is] practically destroyed.

Osimhen had scored five Serie A goals and four in the Europa League so far this season and he was Nigeria’s top scorer in the recently concluded Group stage of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with four goals.
