Manchester United legend, Michael Carrick has now left his job as Manchester United’s manager.

The 40-year old who stepped up for the side after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer some weeks ago stepped down the United dug out after a 3-2 emphatic home victory over rivals Arsenal with the announcement of the club’s new manager Ralf Rangnick imminent, although the German tactician’s spell is said to be on an interim basis.

“100% my decision. Over the last week really [he made the decision], it was creeping in. I respected the club and I respected the new manager coming in, I wanted to make the decision before I had any contact with him or spoke to him.” Carrick told the press after Thursday’s game.

A midfielder in his playing days, Carrick enjoyed a15-and-a-half- year stint with the Old Trafford based side, having spent 12 years as a player and was joined the technical staff during the Jose Mourinho led managerial reign. In his trophy laden career, the Englishman lifted 5 Premier League titles alongside The FA Cup, The League Cup, The UEFA Champions League and The FIFA Club World Cup all of which he won on one occasion.

Carrick won two games and drew one during his 3-game stint with United as the head coach, which were 2:0 and 3:2 victories against Villareal in Europe and Arsenal in the league respectively as well as a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against bitter rivals Chelsea. A very good record in anyone’s book.

The former Westham United and Tottenham Hotspurs man has hinted at spending more time with his family after leaving his role as head coach.

“It’s not been an easy decision to make to be honest, but I think it’s the right one. I’m content with my decision — I was meant to take some time off after I finished playing and I promised the family that we’d have some time together.”

However, the former Man United captain revealed he could have left after the sacking of Solksjaer,

“There was a part of me that wanted to do that [Leave with Solskjaer] I owe Ole a lot.”

The news about his exit was greeted with surprise by his players who according to him were “a bit emotional”.

Manchester United will now turn to new manager Ralf Rangnick whose start to life at the red half of Manchester has been delayed by acquisition of a work permit but looks set to get it before United take on Crystal Palace in their next league fixture.
