Three matches took place on Saturday in the first leg of the third qualifying round for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Costa Rica 2022. Zambia and Ghana shared the spoils in the goalless draw, while Senegal and Tanzania notched crucial home victories.
No goal between Zambia and Ghana at the Nkoloma Stadium as the return match scheduled for December 18 at the Accra Sports Stadium, will be decisive for both teams.
Elsewhere in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania edged Burundi in a five-goal thriller at the Azam Complex as the hosts earned a nervy 3-2 home win.
Tanzania’s goals were scored by Clara Luvanga in the 9th minute, Joyce Lema in the 15th minute, Aisha Masaka in the 44th minute while Burundi got their goals through Estella Gakima in the 22nd minute and Noella in the 58th minute.
Meanwhile in Thies, Senegal boosted their chances of progressing to the next round of the qualifiers with a 2-0 home victory over Guinea at Stade Lat-Dior.
After a drab goalless first half, Coumba Sylla Mbodji broke the deadlock in the 65th minute before wrapping up the victory through Adji Ndiaye’s late effort.
