TSG Hoffenheim defender and Nigeria international, Kevin Akpoguma, has backed Union Berlin’s forward Awoniyi to make the AFCON roster for Nigeria.
The 1.92m-tall center half believes Taiwo Awoniyi should be a regular member of the Super Eagles due to his prolific goalscoring record.
The 2013 golden eaglets striker has found a purple patch at Union Berlin this season scoring nine goals in 15 German Bundesliga outings.
Awo whose style of play has been compared to that of Late Abdulrasheed Yekini got his first Super Eagles call up in October as a replacement for the injured Moffi of Lorient in French Ligue 1.
“Taiwo Awonyi is a player that deserves to play for Nigeria. An incredible player with brutal physicality. He knows where the goal is from inside the box. A player that would be a great asset, especially to Nigeria. I hope that the coach will have Taiwo on his list for the African Cup.”
His absence from the November games raised eyebrows as Odion Ighalo was called ahead of the inform Awo.
Now that a new manager has taken over, Taiwo’s fate is unknown yet as the list is still under construction.
