Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said he won’t replace African players Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita while the trio are away in Cameroon next month for AFCON’21.
The former Borrusia Dortmund manager says he has ‘options’ to use while his big men are away representing their respective nations as Salah will be playing for Egypt, Mane for Senegal and Keita for Guinea.
“I am happy with the squad and we still have options,” Klopp said.
The former Mainz boss further added;
“We knew three would be qualified and be there and we knew that at least two of them will go pretty far in the tournament,”
“Can you be prepared for something like that, properly, perfectly? Like a one-for-one replacement for Sadio, a replacement for Mo, one replacement for Naby? That’s tricky in each situation.
“The thing is there are so many games coming up when we are still together – that is the most intense period now – but then we have a lot of games when Mo and Naby and Sadio are not here.
“That means we have to find line-ups for these games, even when we have cup competitions we have to find line-ups for these games as well, and that is the situation, so you can never be perfectly prepared for this.
“We are quite confident we will find solutions.”
Liverpool will be without Salah, Mane and Keita for the African tournament and there is also a possibility of Joel Matip to represent Cameroon next month.
Mohammed Salah has netted 21 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season while Mane isn’t far off either.
No doubts, Klopp will miss his star forward Salah, who leads the way among goalscorers in the Premier League and also tops the assists leaderboard but the German is ready to weather the storm.
