The much heralded return of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) came on Friday night with MFM hosting Remo Stars at their new home ground, Mobolaji Johnson Arena for the season Opener.

The ‘Olukoya Boys’ fell at home to newcomers Remo Stars of Ijebu Ode 2-0 no thanks to two second half goals from Qudus Akanni and Andy Okpe.

There were concerns over MFM playing their season opener inside the Mobolaji Johnson Arena and were thinking of moving to the Teslim Balogun Stadium as some part of the Arena was still being reconstructed but the former was chosen as the match venue as seen on their Facebook page.

Qudus Akanni had opened Remo Stars’ goals account after he benefitted from a defensive error from MFM before Andy Okpe confirmed the away victory by tapping in from close range a beautiful low ball into the box.

Remo Stars have now won their first game of the season for the first time having lost to Bendel Insurance in 2019 and Plateau United in 2017.
