Reigning champions of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) will begin their quest to defend their crown at 4pm on Sunday evening.
The NPFL returned on Friday night with MFM hosting newcomers Remo Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena which ended 2-0 in favour of the Ijebu Ode outfit.
The ‘Promise keepers’ led by Coach Kennedy Boboye won the league last season going over 17 games without a loss at some point. They will host former Champions Kano Pillars.
Another gruelling encounter will be at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba where Enyimba host Abia Warriors in another exciting Orientatial derby. This will be Finidi George’s first league match as Enyimba’s gaffer as all his previous games in the dug out have been continental assignments.
Newly promoted side Shooting Stars will be making a return to the NPFL for the first time in five years when they travel to the Pantami Stadium to play familiar foe Gombe United. The ‘Oluyole Warriors’ have made a name for themselves in the Nigerian National League (NNL) under manager Edith Olumide Agoye and will be looking to build on it.
Lobi Stars will also kickstart their campaign when they host Rivers United at the Aper Aku Stadium.
