Former Golden Eaglets of Nigeria star and Hammarby IF of Sweden midfield Akinkunmi Amoo has been named as a Sports Ambassador by his former school Brightville College.

At the end of the year ceremony that took place at Brightville Academy yesterday, the 19-year-old was honored as a Sports Brand Ambassador. The school Principal, Dr Friday Ogada had the honour to present the award to a boy he nurtured by himself.

Dr Ogada who also is the Chairman, Oyo State Athletics Association showered praise on Akin for his steady growth in the game while also urging him to be an example for the upcoming ones. “I am so proud of you my star boy, you have made all of us proud at Brightville Academy,” Ogada said.

Akin starred for the Nigerian U-17 team in 2019 at both the Nations Cup and later at the World Cup in Brazil. Though Nigeria was knocked out in the round of 16, his performance was enough to catch the eye of top clubs in Europe.

The 5ft 4in midfielder will later sign his first professional contract with Hammarby, rejecting European heavyweights, AC Milan and Monaco. He has since excelled in Sweden winning the Svenska Cupen (Swedish Cup) last season.

He has featured 49 times for Hammarby scoring 13 goals.

Also honoured at the event as Sports Brand Ambassador of the school was Sulaimon Taofikat.

The 15-year-old won bronze for Oyo State in 100m at the 2021 National Youth Games in Ilorin.

Taofikat was rewarded for the achievement and honour she brought to the school with her success.
