Super Eagles’ right back Shehu Abdullahi has joined the list of players in doubt for Afcon.

The 28-year old was replaced by Paris Psaltis in the 37th minute of his side Omonia Nicosia’s 4-2 loss to rivals APOEL on Boxing Day.

The Kano born player was reported by to have “felt discomfort after a duel with an APOEL defender in the 34th minute and managed to continue playing until the 37th minute when he had to be substituted.”

The former Kano Pillars and Bursaspor defender joins the Eagles’ list of players with fitness or injury concerns, a list which is filled with a host of names such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen who declared himself fit recently, Rangers’ Leon Balogun and Leicester’s Wilfred Ndidi.

The 2016 Olympics bronze medalist will no doubt add to concerns for interim coach Austin Eguavoen as he (Shehu) will be coming to the camp which opens on Wednesday with an injury worry.

Shehu Abdullahi was also rocked with an injury during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations where the Eagles brought home a bronze medal playing just one game throughout the tournament.

A look at the right back options for the Eagles sees him alongside Chidozie Awaziem and Ola Aina vying for a spot with Centre Back Kenneth Omeruo also competent to fill in the role.

The right-footed defender who can also play as a defensive midfielder won the Cypriot First Division with Omonia this year and has also played in two Europa Conference League for the Cyprus side.

Shehu Abdullahi is yet to win a trophy in his national team career and will be hoping he brings home the Africa Cup of Nations alongside the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
