Oduduwa Valley Youth Sport is set to breath a new life into the combat sport in Nigeria. Boxing might be popular in Nigeria but the emergence of Mix Martial Art (MMA) that has become a global game and a money spinning event is still been found wanting in the most populous black nation; that might change now.

A new dawn will hit the city of Ibadan as Oduduwa Valley Youth Sport is set to organize a fighting event tagged Oduduwa Fighting Championship (OFC). The event will be a series of fights with the combination of both boxing and mix martial art. The essence is to give a new face to combat events, discover talents and promote the game especially mix martial art.

The President, Oduduwa Valley Youth Sport, Dolapo Preboye in a chat with grassroots sport publicist and journalist Raymond Tolulope popularly called The Sports Illuminator disclosed all plans to improve the game while setting a standard that will be emulated across Africa.

We have a plan for 12 different fighting event this year but six is very much feasible“, Preboye said.

Oduduwa Fighting Championship (OFC) is something different from the norm. Yes, it will start from Ibadan but we are extending across the six Southwestern states of Nigeria. The idea is to build a brand that automatically sell the game to the world.

Championship will happen every two months this year with the first coming up by February 13. That means six events all through 2022 will take place in Ibadan. We will be combing through the nook and crannies of Ibadan to discover this fighters and promote them.

One big objective we are aiming at is to also impact on the youths through sports and take away hooliganism and social vices off the street. Sport is one avenue to do that, we are tapping into it, to change lives and set the youths in a proper direction.

“It won’t end in Ibadan, the six Southwestern states will have the feel because Oduduwa Valley Youth Sport is looking to build a boxing and mix martial team in all the six south west states of the country”, Dolapo concluded.

The first of the series of the Oduduwa Fighting Championship will be from February 8-13, 2022.

Tuesday, February 8 – Saturday, February 12 is the fight week with the grand finale coming up on February 13, 2022 at the Kankanfo Inn, Ibadan.
