Super Eagles and Alanyaspor defender Chidozie Awaziem was reported to have missed the Super Eagles training held at their camp in Abuja on Monday.
The centre back who turned 25 two days ago according to reports suffered a knock and subsequently sat out of today’s training.
Although more is to come in the next days about the health condition of the former Porto defender but it appears there is no cause for alarm.
With Leon Balogun out due to injury although Semi Ajayi was called up as a replacement, the Enugu-born defender is more likely to be chosen by interim coach Austin Eguavoen to pair William Troost-Ekong at the heart of the Super Eagles’ defense.
Awaziem was reported by Super Eagles media a day ago to have described the atmosphere of the Eagles’ camp as ‘wonderful’ and hoped on welcoming the rest of the squad.
“It has been a wonderful atmosphere in camp. Everyone is preparing with the few players in camp. Training sessions has been good,” the Boavista man said.
“Everyone is giving their best, the coach is doing a good job. We are hoping to get more players in camp , so that we can begin preparation for the AFCON properly.” He added.
Super Eagles opened camping at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abuja on December 27.
Awaziem and the Eagles will begin their quest for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations crown when they on the Pharaohs of Egypt on Tuesday January 11.
Awaziem plays for Alanyaspor in Turkey although on loan from Boavista.
