Paris Saint Germain zoomed into the Round-16 of the French cup on Monday night with a 4-0 Victory over Vannes.
Frenchman Kylian Mbappe came from the bench to net a 15-minute hat-tricks in his first game of the year and also in the process netted his 200th career goal.
The Parisians missed the services of Messi who sat out of the game due to being positive for Covid-19 but the Argentine superstar wasn’t missed as the netted four times during the encounter.
They took the lead against a hard fighting Vannes just two minutes to the half-hour mark through Presnel Kimpembe who wore the captain armband on the night. The unmarked defender planted a powerful header past goalie Petrel from a Nuno Mendes corner.
The visitors doubled their lead a minute from the hour mark as Kimpembe the night’s goalscorer turned provider when be released Kylian Mbappe on the break and the attacker got himself clean through on entering Vannes half and zoomed into the box before curling a shot past Petrel who had a hand to it but wasn’t enough to pull a save.
Kylian Mbappe made it three in the 71st minute as an elegant Xavi Simons pass found Mbappe whose first time shot from 20 yards beat Petrel.
Five minutes later the former Monaco star got his hat-trick as Mbappe who had put Ebimbe through got the ball back from the attacker with the goalkeeper rounded. Mbappe then slammed it into the empty goal.
The scoreline however failed to reveal the good performance put in by Vannes who made life stressful for their visitors particularly in the first 45.
Speaking after the game Mbappe made it known to be happy to get started again:
“I’m happy to get started again,” said World Cup winner Mbappe.
“It was not an easy match for us to play, but we were there.”
Also manager Pochettino also commended the hat-trick hero calling him a ‘top player’:
“We can be happy with our team performance, very solid. His (Mbappe) goals were the icing on the cake. He is a top player in the world.
“We made a few adjustments at half-time, including the positioning of the midfielders. It allowed us to be more fluid in the flow of the ball, and to find depth.” Pochettino said.
Mbappe is still unsure about his future and more is still to be determined whether the forward who is free to sign a pre-contract with any club will renew with PSG or move to Madrid his likely destination.
