Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage has heaped plaudits on Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho after their lone goal victory over hosts Manchester United.

Joao Mourinho’s 82nd-minute strike which hit the low left corner of the net helped push Bruno Lage’s men to gain all three points.

Speaking after the game Lage commented on the hunger Moutinho plays with:

“I can just say good things about Joao. Look at the way he comes every day to training, he’s a fantastic player. A top player with a long career.

He’s hungry. He wants to continue to win and improve himself – he’s one of the good examples we have here.” Lage said.

“He’s already had a solid career but even if you do a five against five exercise Joao wants to win, this is the kind of mentality I want in my team. Guys who come with a big personality and a big ambition.” The former Benfica boss added.

Also Lage mentioned his approach to the game where they would go on to control at most times during the game:

The most important thing is the way we played this game against this team. I think we prepared well for the game and I give a lot of compliments to my players to come here and play in our way,” Lage told the press.

“The first half was very good, we controlled everything, we created a lot of chances and didn’t score. Second half, they adapted and changed the system. Afterwards, we changed some guys and they helped us to win this game.”

He however added that the team still needs to do more as they’ll continue to work:
“Even now with three points and one goal, we had more chances than goals, so we need to continue to work.”

Wolves are eight on the log with 28 points and up next for them is a tie back at home against Southampton.
