The camp of Sengal has been thrown into chaos after some members of the camp tested positive for Covid-19.

After the tests conducted, it was gathered that nine of the travelling party tested positive including Leicester’s Nampalys Mendy, Tottenham’s Pape Sarr – on loan at Metz and Mame Thiam of Kayserispor.

The Teranga Lions later travelled to Cameroon yesterday without the three players and other six members as confirmed by the Senegalese ministry of Sports.

“(The team) left Dakar but without the three players and the six members of the management affected by Covid,” said an undisclosed member of the ministry.

Meanwhile measures have also been taken by Cameroon in the wake of the outbreak of the Covid-19 Omicron variant as they have reduced the number of fans that will be allowed into each Stadium as Stadiums will have their capacity maximum at 80 percent for the host Cameroon’s games while other fixtures will see just 60 percent of the ground’s capacity covered with fans.

The Teranga Lions are yet to win an Afcon title having reached the finals twice but are strong favorites for the crown.

Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy, PSG’ Idrissa Gueye, Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Crystal Palace’s Cheikhou Kouyate are among the big names the nation will be looking forward to.

Senegal will face Zimbabwe on Monday for their first game of the tournament in Bafoussam.
