The Premier League have announced the nominees for the Premier League Player Of The Month for December 2021.

As usual seven finest players of last month have been nominated to battle for the monthly player’s gong.

These are Manchester City pair of Joao Cancelo and Raheem Sterling, Arsenal pair of Martin Ordegaard and Gabriel Martinelli, Leicester midfielder James Maddison, Chelsea youngster Mason Mount and Spurs winger Son Heung-Min.

Joao Cancelo & Raheem Sterling
(Manchester City)

Portuguese attacking full-back Cancelo enjoyed a stellar month of December which saw him play all six games of Manchester City, winning all. The former Juventus man capped the month with a goal and assist against Newcastle as well as keeping three clean sheets.

While Raheem Sterling was involved in all but one of the six games, the Englishman netted a league-high five goals within that period and also provided an assist against Westham. The former Liverpool winger also reached a milestone of 100 Premier League strikes with his goal against Wolves that same month.

Martin Ordegaard & Gabriel Martinelli
(Arsenal)

Norwegian Martin Ordegaard alongside Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli were a cog in the wheel of Mikel Arteta’s rejuvenated Arsenal side that went on to win four games in a row scoring goals aplenty within those periods.

Ordegaard opened his goals account for December with a strike against Manchester United before netting the opener against Everton and another against Southampton. Also he provided three assists altogether in wins at Leeds and Norwich.

December saw Martinelli return to Arsenal’s line up after missing out for some time and went on to cement his place in Arsenal’s line up. He started all six games of Arsenal last month scoring three goals and providing two assists.

James Maddison
(Leicester City)

The month of December saw Leicester playmaker James Maddison rediscover his good old days form as his scintillating display saw him strike thrice against Southampton and Man City as well as an assist against Newcastle.

Mason Mount
(Chelsea)

While it wasn’t the best of months for Chelsea as they lost grounds in their title challenge, Mason Mount was a cream of the crop for the West London side. Having played in all of Chelsea’s seven games last month. The Cobhams academy graduate bagged four goals and three assists including a goal and an assist each in successive trips to Watford and Westham.

Son Heung-Min
(Tottenham Hotspurs)

South-korean sensation Son Heung-Min put up a brilliant performance last month as Spurs were unbeaten through out the months. Played in five games for Spurs and netted in four straight games including one against Liverpool. He also provided an assist against Norwich.

The award winner will be named next week and it’s no news that the last recipient of the award back in November was Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and it was the first time a defender would win the monthly award twice.
