Austin Okocha, a Super Eagles legend, has expressed his displeasure with CAF’s selection of the Man of the Match in yesterday’s match.
In the first half, Kelechi Iheanacho scored a volley and that gave Nigeria the much-needed three points.
Kelz was named man of the match in the game against the Egyptian Pharaohs, although Jay Jay believes Moses Simon should have won the award.
Every Nigerian player on the field yesterday had a fantastic game, but there were some standout performances.
Iheanacho scored the game-winning goal, but Simon was utterly unplayable from start to finish until he was replaced late in the game by Alex Iwobi.
The 26-year-old had a lot of energy and style. His inventiveness left his defenders in the dust, including a clever twist that injured his defender and forced his substitution early in the game since the substitute couldn’t keep the winger in check.
Austin Okocha, who was a pundit on Super Sport during the game, claimed Moses was the finest player on the field, but that Iheanacho deserved the man-of-the-match award as well because of his game-winning goal.
“For me, Moses Simon is the man of the match. He tormented the defence line of the Pharaohs.
“He was a menace. He brought out many crosses that could’ve led to goals. I think he caused a lot of havoc and he deserved the man of the match in my opinion.
“I picked Simon as the man of the match but you have to understand with the decision to hand Iheanacho the award. His goal decided the game and when you score a goal of that quality”. It’s hard not to get recognised for it. He said.
