Chelsea have been handed a difficult task to keep centre-back Andreas Christensen after reports from Germany have it that the Denmark international is on Dortmund’s radar.
The Cobhams Academy graduate has entered into the final six months of his contract with the Stamford Bridge side but is yet to come to a contractual agreement with the side as his father reportedly demanded for a salary higher than what the club is offering.
However, reports from Germany have now shown that German outfit, Borrusia Dortmund have made the Dane their ‘top-priority’ signing.
Although Dortmund cannot wage a transfer war with the big sides in European football who have the financial muscle, they will be going all out to secure his signature because he won’t be costing a dime of transfer funds.
Although the player’s salary demands may seem higher than what the Yellow and black – stripped side can pay, some inward movements are also on the table.
Midfielder Axel Witsel is likely to take an exit door which will free up his £6.7m annual salary on the payroll.
Dortmund do need to add a bonafide CB to their ranks as they are short of covers. With Mats Hummels is ageing and Dan Axel Zagadou injury prone, they only have Manuel Akanji 100 percent. Definitely, a good centre back will be a great addition as they look to challenge Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
The Signal Iduna Park side are free to begin pre-contract talks with Christensen since January 1.
Christensen who has made 21 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season is no novice to the Bundesliga as has played for two seasons between 2015 and 2017 in the colours of Borrusia Mochenbgladbach on loan from Chelsea.
The Blues are as well running out of options in the heart of defence as Antonio Rudiger is also going to be a free agent in the summer.
