Watford’s rumoured target,Samuel Kalu, did not show up for a training session with his current club Bordeaux, fueling speculation over his long-term future.
According to French media source 20 minutes (via Get French Football News), the Nigerian winger is in advanced talks with the Hornets, with a transfer fee in the area of €4m (£3.4m) being speculated. The winger has been linked with a move to the Hornets in recent times.
The report alleges that Kalu was not at training this week on Wednesday, January 12, which only serves to exacerbate the problem even further.
During the first few days of the January transfer window, Watford have already signed three players to strengthen their squad ahead of the second half of the season.
Edo Kayembe, a central midfielder, joined the club after Hassane Kamara and Samir were both released by the club. The signing of a defensive-minded midfielder was definitely a priority given the club’s Premier League problems.
Given the absence of Senegalese winger Ismaila Sarr, and the uncertainty surrounding his comeback date – albeit his knee ligament damage indicates he is unlikely to return any time soon.
It would make sense for the ‘Orns to go out and sign another winger.
Kalu has made 86 appearances for Bordeaux, scoring 10 goals and providing 8 assists in the process. However, his impact in Ligue 1 this season has been limited, having played only 323 minutes and contributing only a goal and one assist.

Samuel Kalu, like other Watford stars such as Emmanuel Dennis, William Troost-Ekong, Peter Etebo, and loaned out players Maduka Okoye and Tom Dele-Bashiru, is a Nigerian international.
