The Black Stars of Ghana have been sent packing from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon after going down late 3-2 against Comoros.

It was the first time in 16 years Ghana won’t be making the Knockouts of the continental showpiece.

The Black Stars fell behind as early as the fourth minute but things got worse for Ghana when Andre Ayew was shown a red card for a lunge on the keeper, which was checked by VAR and confirmed.

Comoros doubled their lead in the second half but Ghana struck back almost immediately with a corner.

Ghana kept on fighting and they made it 2-2 but Ahmed Mogni’s second goal in the game with five minutes to stoppage time proved to be the deciding goal of the five-goal thriller

The last time Ghana were eliminated at the group stages was to another debutant Zimbabwe back in 2006.

Comoros having picked three points throughout the group stage will have to wait until other groups play to see if they fall within the teams that will go through to the knockouts as best losers.

Meanwhile in the other group game, Morocco and Gabon settled for a 2-2 draw.
