Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid had to come from behind to earn a victory against hard-working Elche after Marcelo’s red card saw them finish the game with 10 men.
Elche went ahead in the 103rd minute after Marcelo had received a red card through Verdu but their lead didn’t last long as Madrid pulled level through Isco. Madrid ended the game as victors when Eden Hazard scored five minutes from time.
Real Madrid were on the back of lifting the Supercopa de Espana coming into the clash against Elche at the Estadio Martinez Valero in the Round-16 of the Spanish Copa Del Rey.
The game began at a frantic pace as Vinicius Junior drew the first blood but Elche could have gone ahead in the 11th minute but they missed an open goal.
A missed interception from Marcelo had allowed Josan to get clear in the box, his low cross found Carrillo who put the ball over the bar from just 2 yards out.
There was no real threat at goal for both sides as Real Madrid faded further as the game wound down.
The game ended in a scoreless stalemate and an extra-time ensued.

Elche could have gotten the shoot-out they hoped for when they struck on the 120′ but had their goal ruled out for a foul on Lucas Vazquez in the build up.
Real Madrid shook off a shaky 90 minutes to turn the game around in the extra time.

Speaking after the game, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti expressed his delight at the comeback win labelling his team as one of character, strength and humility.
“I’m very happy. I think it’s the game that’s given me the most happiness. This is a team with a lot of humility, character, strength. They never give up. This is the best thing about this game.” He said.
Real Madrid have thus advanced into the Quarterfinals of the Cops Del Rey and will know their opponents when the draw is made on Friday afternoon.
