The Super Eagles of Nigeria have learnt the team they will be facing in the round-16 of the Africa Cup of Nations and it’s no other than familiar North-African foes Tunisia.
Nigeria topped Group D with nine maximum points having racked up wins against Egypt [1-0], Sudan [3-1] and Guinea-Bissau [2-0].
Tunisia on the other hand finished third with three points as their only win was a 4-0 smashing of Mauritania. The rest were 1-0 losses to Mali and Gambia.
However, Mondher Khebaier ‘s men have been decimated with 12 of their players tested positive for Covid.
This clash will be a repeat of Afcon 2019 Third-place match where Odion Ighalo’s third minute strike made the difference.
Nigeria have met Tunisia four times in the Africa Cup of Nations [2000, 2004,2006 and 2019] winning on three occasions.
The last time Nigeria lost to Tunisia in regular time was 36 years ago
The Super Eagles have only lost one competitive game [on penalties] against Tunisia in the last 36 years and that was Afcon 2004 Semifinals where Nigeria lost 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Rades.
